Opening

How the first minutes teach: what the first frame shows, each step of the opening and what it leaves in her hands, what is said after it, the firsts and tallies she is told, and the rules the glass keeps.

The first frame

One thing to do, and nothing she has no reason to look at.

On screenA dark riverbank, a woman, and one clay bank that glints
First actionWalk to the clay. She digs without being told to.
Then shownThe potter's pit outline appears, because she is now carrying something that fits it.
Never on screenCurrencies she has not earned, buttons for systems she has not met, any tutorial text over her body

The storyboard

5 steps, each captioned in 5 words or fewer. A step stands its places on top of the ones before it and only moves forward. A thing she holds for the first time is named once, with the lines its card says.

After the lesson

Not a step: no pad, nothing stood, nothing pointed at. The banner says it once, whenthe gate's sign first comes into frame after the first show.

Firsts

Each is said once on the banner, 1.2 s behind a new caption and for 2.2 s, while the count it names lifts. Then it is kept on the wonder card as her record.

Tallies

Under the firsts on the wonder card: all she has done, not what she holds. The numbers are the slice played straight through, digging until her back is full.

TallyAfter the first showAt the gate
clay dug one: clay dug38
lamps made one: lamp made11
shows performed one: show performed111
wonder earned one: wonder earned11103
coins earned one: coin earned11149

The glass

What the slice draws over the world. A tap is a press that lifts within 350 ms and10 px; 0.02 m of walking closes a card; a payment flies 0.8 s a piece.

PartShowsRule
PadA ring on the ground by a place: in where she gives, out where what it made waitsStanding on it is the action. There is no button; what the place holds is shown on the place.
BannerWhy the next step, at the top; the show’s title while it plays; a first, once, when she does itAt most 5 words. From the lamp catching to the last frame the show’s title stands in for the caption. A first waits 1.2 s behind a new caption and is said for 2.2 s.
TagOver the marked pad: what the place takes and what it gives, with how many are there so far. A station its job, a build site what it is built of, a node what it gives, a stall the tradeBuilt by whatever marks the pad: the lesson’s step, or the place’s call. It fills as she works and lights once the place has what it wants. It keeps above her head and is off while a show plays; too wide for the glass, it drops its words and keeps its marks and counts. It is read, never tapped.
CountsClay, lamps, hide, charcoal, puppets, wonder and coins in the cornerA count appears when she first holds the thing and is written in words, singular for one, until she spends some. At 0 it leaves once it is done with (the lamp once it is on its stand, clay once the lesson is over, hide and charcoal at once) while nothing in frame would fill it, and comes back when it rises or the place that gives it comes into frame. A payment flies in, 0.8 s a piece.
CardA thing’s name, its line in the history of cinema, its excerpt folded shut under a “More”, a station’s recipeOpened by a tap on a count or a place she has stood at. The next tap or step closes it; a tap on “More” opens or shuts the excerpt instead. The one tap in the game.
TrayThe strip of three the show plays, and under it the puppets she has, each as its black cut-outOpened by a tap on the sheet from the stage’s pad between shows, once she has puppets of her own; the first time by stepping on. A puppet is tapped or dragged into a slot. It stands along the bottom, or down one side where that would cover her, the sheet or the children. A tap on the world closes it and plays the show; stepping off closes it. While it is open the lamp is turned up to 80% of a show’s, so the shadow on the sheet reads beside it.
